The principal
purpose of the Roundtable is to preserve and, whenever possible,
improve the quality of life in St. Johns County.
The St. Johns County Civic Association Roundtable has been, for many
years, a strong network of neighborhood and community associations.
It meets monthly to hear and discuss county issues with
local officials and community leaders. It is a non-partisan
organization whose members have a wide range of expertise
and interests. Its subcommittees periodically report on
issues of both immediate and long-range concern. Reports
cover budgets (e.g.: county, school district, water management
district), infrastructure (water, transportation, land use,
environmental and growth management policies). It is a valuable
educational resource for its members and the public.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is backing a plan to drain Northeast Florida's chef natural resource for the benefit of Central Florida developers. The proposal would siphon some 262 million gallons a day from the St. Johns. "Once pipes are laid and water treatment plants erected , there's no chance utilities will cut back on water use even if the St. Johns is harmed," This Sucks by Owen Holmes, Oct 2, 2007 Folio Weekly.
The Taylor Creek Reservoir, located in Orange and Oceola counties near the SJR, was designed for flood control and water supply for the city of Cocoa in 1999 yielding 10 million gallons a day. Expanding the city of Cocoa's existing water supply system was seen as a golden opportunity in 2004, as "Water Supply Opportunity." Six water suppliers and two water management districts have signed a Memorandum of Agreement to work together to plan and prepare a preliminary design for this alternative water supply project.
Project participants are the cities of Cocoa
and Titusville, Orange County,Orlando
Utilities Commission, Tohopekaliga Water
Authority, East CentralFlorida Services Inc.,
the St. Johns River and South Florida water
management districts. The city of Cocoa will
manage the first phase of the project.
Also, nine other local governments are
interested in obtaining some supplies from
the project — Brevard and Lake counties, the
cities of Melbourne, Orlando, Clermont,
Groveland, Mascotte and Minneola, and the
Reedy Creek Improvement District.
